‘The Ordinary’ Skincare Routine- 30 day results

I’ve never been someone who had naturally great skin; I often get breakouts, my forehead and cheeks are textured, and I have pigmentation in some areas. After hearing about The Ordinary, I decided to give the brand a shot simply because it’s so affordable. I ordered my products off the DECIEM website (free shipping over $25 CAD if you live in Canada) and I’ve been using them for just about two months now but the difference in my skin is immense!

I would recommend watching YouTube reviews to figure out what products work best for your specific skin problems since the labels are very tricky for this brand. There’s also a page on the website that lists a regimen guide for each skin type as well as a contact page that allows you to inquire about the specific order in which you should use your products if you can’t figure it out on your own.

‘The Ordinary’ products I used:

  1. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
  2. Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
  3. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
    • From all the products I bought, this was the game-changer. If you don’t purchase anything else, make sure to get this
    • You must apply sunscreen after using this product if you step outside otherwise it will damage your skin
    • Many people use it twice a day but I use it in the daytime only
    • I’ve heard complaints of foundation not setting on the skin after using this product but I’ve personally never noticed a difference
  4. Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%
      • I bought the 5% to start off with since I’ve never applied acid directly on my face before so I would recommend starting off with that if it’s your first time as well
      • Now that I’ve used it for almost two months, I bought the 10% because I feel like my skin will be able to tolerate it now

My AM routine

  1. Either double cleanse (Near Skin pH Balancing Cleansing Foam/Cleansing Cream) or tone (Soon Jung pH5.5 Relief Toner) *
  2. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
  3. Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
  4. Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
  5. Moisturize or hydrating facial mist (Deoproce Aloe Soothing Face & Body Mist 95%)
  6. Sunscreen (only if I go outside)

*I cleanse if I wear makeup throughout the day, otherwise I tone only. I use either/or because they’re both pH balancing so I don’t need to use both together and overdo it

My PM routine

  1. Either double cleanse (Near Skin pH Balancing Cleansing Foam/Cleansing Cream) or tone (Soon Jung pH5.5 Relief Toner)
  2. Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%
  3. Facial oil (Purely Botanicals Rosewater Lily Face Serum)*
  4. Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
  5. Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
  6. Moisturize or hydrating facial mist (Deoproce Aloe Soothing Face & Body Mist 95%)

*The Ordinary has a 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil that’s quite popular though I’ve never tried it myself

Before and After

I should warn you, for a while it seems like your skin will look even worse than how it started off but I think that’s all the purging before it starts to clear up, so don’t make any plans for a week or so. Also, depending on how often you use each product, it can last you between 1-3 months. I’m close to finishing my most used bottles after two months (Hyaluronic Acid and Alpha Arbutin).

Have you tried these products? If not, what are some of your favourite affordable skincare products?

  1. Bet Imma be buying some more Ordinary products (I only have one because the choices overwhelm me but now you’ve inspired me) (you and Hyram on youtube)

    1. Yeah I had to watch so many videos (including Hyram’s) to figure out what would work best for my skin problems but the Niacinamide and Hyaluronic acid seem pretty universal from what I’ve seen!
