5 Foreign Netflix Shows to Bingewatch
Yes, we all have schoolwork that we should be doing during this quarantine but let’s be real, that’s the last thing we want to do while we’re stuck at home. That’s why I put together a list of 5 foreign (because yay diversity!) Netflix shows that you should watch instead. Now is the perfect time to download Netflix Party and start a new series with your friends all from the comfort of your own bed!
Elite (3 seasons)
Elite is a Spanish show that features murder, drama, romance, teenage angst, betrayal, love, friendship and everything in between. It also probably features the most attractive cast I’ve ever seen in a show. It’s everything Riverdale wants to be but literally could never. Each season only has around 8 episodes so it’s super easy to binge-watch and definitely worth it!
Dark (2 seasons)
Even though there are currently two seasons of Dark, I’ve only watched the first so far, but it was enough for me to add it to the list. I’ve heard it being compared to Stranger Things although I think this has a stronger plot. True to its name, Dark is a ‘dark’ German sci-fi drama that revolves around the disappearance of a boy from a small town. During the search, secrets of the town and its residents are revealed. Oh, and there’s time traveling too. If you’re waiting for the next season of Stranger Things to drop, make sure to check this out in the meantime!
Humsafar (1 season)
No, this isn’t the official poster for the show but when this photoshoot of the main couple released I screamed because of the sheer beauty of these two. Anyways, Humsafar is one of the few Pakistani dramas I’ve watched and a total classic. It’s a romantic drama that’s more than just a love story. The story is as tragic as it is beautiful and describes the grudging marriage of Ashar and Khirad, how they manage to fall in love, and the misunderstandings that drive them apart. The cast puts on an amazing performance and if you’re looking for something totally unlike a ‘normal’ romantic story, be sure to check this out!
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (1 season)
One of these days I’m going to create a list of my favourite Korean dramas because there are way too many of them, but for the sake of this list, I’ll only be mentioning two. The first is Strong Woman Do Bong Soon which is a lighthearted rom-com (in case you want a breather from the past 3 dramas) about an unnaturally strong woman who gets hired to protect a rich and attractive CEO who obviously falls in love with her. It’s a super cute comedy that made me cringe because of how adorable the main couple is and it’s a K-drama that’s sure to brighten up your mood!
Oh My Ghost (1 season)
I remember reluctantly watching Oh My Ghost back in high school because I thought the plot sounded dumb but I ended up loving the show! It’s a romantic comedy about a ghost that possesses a virgin girl’s body causing her to try and seduce a popular chef so after she “gets what she wants” (wink wink my younger brother reads my blogs), she can move on to the next life in peace. It’s a hilarious show and the protagonists are both such talented actors that they make the show a treat to watch. Definitely would recommend for a good laugh and cute story!
And there you have my top 5 non-English show recommendations on Canadian Netflix! I’m looking to start some more foreign series so if you have any recommendations, comment them down below!
