Not Reading as Much as You Would Like? Here’s How to Read More.
This post is dedicated to fellow students or used-to-be readers who are too preoccupied with life to take some time out for leisurely reading.
Don’t feel attacked because of my use of the second-person. I’m talking to myself as much as I’m talking to you, the reader, who was able to relate to whatever I’ve said so far. But FEAR NOT! The first step is acknowledging there is something you would like to change about your habits. And you’ve already done that by clicking on this blog post!
So where to from here? Well, a good way to start is finding books that excite you about reading them. Think about books you may have read a few years ago or some favourites of yours that you would like to re-read. That’s where you start. And if you would like to start something new, check out Goodreads or a simple Google search of popular books from your favourite genre. Whatever book you read, be certain it relates to you and your interests. Otherwise, it will be very easy to stop midway.
Here’s a tip: start off with a smaller book, less than 300 pages. If you haven’t read in a while anything more than that might be overwhelming to read, thus making quitting an easier option.
Once you find that one book you’d like to read, start reading! Try and aim for at least 10 minutes of reading a day. I either like to read before I sleep (it helps you feel drowsy) or during your daily commute (much more productive than just listening to music!) From here, it’s simple. Once you start making reading a priority, even for 10 minutes a day, it will become a habit. It will take effort and dedication but it’s very doable.
Lastly, before you finish a book, make sure to have another one in the running so you can get to it as soon as you finish your current book.
Also, feel free to check out my Goodreads for some inspiration! My goal is to read 20 books this year which is far more than I’ve read in the past few years since I started university. What’s your reading goal for 2020?
Hey, awesome post! I’ve really been meaning to start reading more for a long time, and this was definitely a push in the right direction!
Keep it up!!
That’s awesome! I’m glad to hear it 🙂 Let me know how it goes!
